Our next event is very nearly here and it’s the first Major Muster of the season! We’re all getting very excited and ready to take to the field and fight hard once again on the Sunday and Monday of this upcoming Bank Holiday Weekend.
This weekend, you’ll find us at the beautiful Charlton Park estate, just near Malmesbury in Wiltshire. The ancestral home of the Earl of Suffolk and Berkshire, this beautiful house was built out of the Abbey of Malmesbury when it was sold off in 1539 at the Dissolution of the Monasteries.
The event will be a showcase of all aspects of 17th Century life, from the camp to the displays. The camp will show both military and civilian life in the 17th century including cooking, crafts, maintaining of weapons, and barber surgery. You’ll see people representing all aspects of 17th century society from the top to the bottom and will be able to interact with those on camp, asking all of the questions you want to know the answer to.
The camp will be open from 12pm onwards and as well as exploring the camp you’ll be able to watch displays from the Royalist Drums and Colours, Hazelrigg’s Lobsters Cavalry group and a drill display by the Sealed Knot’s Apprentices, who are aged between 9 and 16.
The main event will be a spectacular battle at 2pm, showcasing muskets, pike, drums, colours, officers cavalry and cannon. With upwards of 600 people on the field, it’s sure to be a fantastic event.
After the battle, there will be another opportunity to talk to the soldiers who’ve taken part as a regiment or two will be heading straight from the field back to the Living History camp. The camp will remain open until 4pm each day.
You can find all of the information you need here on the Charlton Park Estate website including information about tickets and parking.
Don’t forget to look out for us Newcastles when you’re watching. We’ll be in our famous white coats with our plain, red colour fluttering proudly above us. If you manage to snap any pictures of us, please post them either to our Facebook page, or tag us in them on instagram using our handle, @newcastlesfoote. You can also keep an eye on our Instagram for photos direct from the event of what we’re getting up to around camp and more.
We hope you’re able to come along and enjoy a great day out!
