Upcoming Event: The Great Rebellion at Kenilworth Castle, Warwickshire – 30th April & 1st May 2017

This weekend the Regiment will be heading out for the first big event of the year. We’ll be heading to the beautiful Kenilworth Castle in Warwickshire for a two day event as Kenilworth is besieged! We’ll be portraying 17th Century life within the walls of the castle and throughout the day skirmishes will break out as the castles walls are attacked.

The partially ruined castle will provide a stunning backdrop to the event and the Elizabethan Gardens, 17th Century Hedge Maze and castle towers will provide plenty of other things to see and do during the day.

The Siege of Basing House, Hampshire: 15th – 17th April 2017

Last weekend, 3 pikemen, a water carrier and a drummer made their way south to the pretty village of Old Basing to take part in the yearly opening event for Basing House.

Now managed by Hampshire County Council, the ruins of Basing House stand on some of the best Civil War earthworks in the country and, alongside the 17th Century Barn and pretty house gardens, make up and interesting and exciting attraction.

Book Review: ‘Scatterwood’ by Piers Alexander

Looking for something to keep yourself entertained until the fighting season starts again? Looking for the perfect companion to being squished in the back of the car next to all the kit for another weekend of re-enacting?

Well look no further as Newcastle’s regiment start foraying into the world of book reviews! Over the next few months we’re going to review various books that are related to the 17th Century and/or The English Civil Wars. Some will be great non-fiction reads for broadening your knowledge and others will be exciting fiction to transport you back to our favourite century as if you were right there in the thick of it.
